There’s no doubt Nintendo’s Wii will be a one-of-a-kind on the next-gen market. With it’s expected affordability, its user-friendly make up and its interactive remote, the console will no doubt have a big fan following. But, that’s not enough for Nintendo and LucasArts.
The word on the street is the Wiimote will also enable some serious lightsaber battles, which no doubt has Star Wars fans excited.
The notion comes from LucasArts’ Steve Sansweet who mentioned at Comic-Con in San Diego that his company intends to bring Star Wars games to all three next-gen consoles. He’s also been reported as saying the Wii controller resembles a lightsaber. Some folks have put two and two together based on Sansweet’s comments and have come up with lightsaber action enabled by the crafty Wii remote.
Whether the lightsaber clashing action pans out to be true or not, it does seem to be a likely jump for the Wiimote. Why have such a nifty controller and not use it for a lightsaber when creating a Star Wars game? Seems almost a waste of the technology.
I can’t help but think of the Star Wars kid. If the Wii lightsaber flies, he’d be the trendsetter. I wonder if he’d get royalties?
There’s no official word on the lightsaber, the Star Wars kid or a release date for the Wii, although some code breakers are surmising an Oct. 2 debut.
