The gaming world is abuzz with speculation about the potential release date for Wii. In a media release issued July 25, the company highlights its upcoming game releases. Notably missing from the release is anything to do with the launch of Wii, but Nintendogs Dalmation will make it out on Oct. 16.
The “oversight” has gaming writers all over the globe chiming in with their thoughts. The media release talks about game launches every Monday in the 2006 fourth quarter except for Oct. 2, Nov. 20 and Nov. 27. The dates are leading many to believe Nintendo intends to bring us Wii on Oct. 2. The reasoning behind the speculation is pretty solid since Nov. 20 would be after the PlayStation 3’s launch and Nov. 27 is after Black Friday.
Speculators are saying Nintendo’s media release was intended to be written in code for folks to crack. If that’s true or not remains to be seen, but the lack of the information about Wii is pretty suspicious.
Whether the speculation pans out to be true or not, and whether Nintendo intended it or not, the company is getting some serious bang for its buck in regard to this media release. The point of a media release is to generate press and this one is sure doing the trick.
In addition to its media release, Nintendo also has put out some financials, which include some estimates on Wii’s performance once it hits the market.
There has been some speculation in the past that Wii would arrive in October. Unfortunately, since Nintendo seems to be pretty tight-lipped about it all, we still don't know for sure. But, count on one thing: the next-gen race has already begun. Sony and Nintendo are simply working the crowds right now, softening up our wallets for their eventual releases.
