Valve has unveiled its plans for Half-Life 2: Episode Two and the news is more than good for Xbox 360 owners and soon-to-be PS3 owners, as well.
The new Episode Two content will come with two side games – Team Fortress 2 and Portal – to make the buy even sweeter for Half-Life fans.
Valve’s move toward episodic content seems to be well received by fans. Half-Life 2: Episode One was deemed a success by the company and it debuted at No. 1 in Europe. Overall the franchise has sold more than 16 million to date.
In Episode Two, players will get new weapons and vehicles as they help Dr. Gordon Freeman traverse a countryside that’s overrun with the Combine threat.
The bonus games sound pretty cool, as well. Team Fortress 2 is a new spin on the old multiplayer title. It features, according to Valve, the most advanced graphics of any Source-based game. In it, players can choose their character class and work together to complete mission-based tactical objectives.
Portal is a single player game that defies easy description. According to the Valve media release, it will change “how players approach, manipulate, and surmise the possibilities in a given environment in a manner similar to how the Gravity Gun changed our approach to how an object may be leveraged in any given situation.”
Valve intends to include Team Fortress 2 and Portal with every retail and Steam version of Half-Life 2: Episode Two sold for the PC. It will also offer these products in what it’s calling “one tremendous offering” for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 players.
Videos from the three games are anticipated for release sometime next week to give players an idea of what they’re in for. No price for the package deal has been announced.
