Soccer fans who missed the career-ending headbutt France’s Zinedine Zidane put on Italy’s Marco Materazzi in the World Cup finals can relive the action over and over again through Zidane: The Headbutting Game.
A quick little creation in the vein of The Penguin Game, but less graphically appealing, this little number pokes fun at the outburst that took the French team’s captain out of the game and his team out of the running for World Cup victory.
What exactly happened on the field is a matter of debate, but according to lip reader Jessica Rees, Materazzi really inflamed Zidane by calling him “the son of a terrorist whore,” and adding that he should “just f*** off.”
Materazzi denies the claim.
Whatever the case, something happened on the field that caused the 34-year-old son of two Algerian immigrants to snap, lower his head and ram it directly into Materazzi’s stomach. The sad thing is that Zidane, no doubt, will regret this for the rest of his life. It won’t matter whether he was totally justified in the action or not, he will forever be haunted by the move that contributed to Italy’s win in the finals.
According to his agent, Alain Migliaccio, Zidane is pretty shaken. “When I saw him at 2 am he was very sad, he didn’t want to end his career like this. He was simply very sad. He was very sad for everything that happened, but this is life. He is a human being, not a god.”
On the upside, it appears as if France has forgiven Zidane and he has even won the Golden Ball award.
