It seems I’m not the only one who thinks the PlayStation 3 is going to offer too little for too much money – at least coming out of the gate.
Official PlayStation Magazine editor Dana Jongewaard has written quite a piece on why she doesn’t intend to fork over $600-plus to Sony for the PS3 this November. She does, however, intend to buy an Xbox 360.
Jongewaard cites what appears to be a lack of big-name titles upon the console’s release as her main reason and adds the fact she just isn’t impressed by Blu-ray. She doesn’t seem to be impressed by TV technology in general, but that’s another story.
I’m with Jongewaard, but I couldn’t wait beyond opening week to get my hands on the Xbox 360. She’s managed to wait an entire year. There’s questioning as to why, but my pure guess is hoping a price drop will come in November on the 360.
Unlike Jongewaard, I intend to add a Wii to my collection sometime shortly after its launch. And, with a price that could be as low as $170, why wouldn’t I?
But, the PS3 with all its bells and whistles just sounds like a console that’s going to cost a lot up front and keep on costing more. I’m a movie fanatic, but Blu-ray doesn’t intrigue me either. The disks cost too darn much. Thirty bucks for “Basic Instinct 2?” Please!
As Jongewaard says “$600 is a lot of money, especially when I can get what - for me at least - will be a very similar experience for $400.”
