The Internet is abuzz with rumors about a potential voice recognition capability for Nintendo’s Wii.
The speculation comes from a patent Nintendo filed a few years back that involves technology that can turn speech to text on screen. The crafty program is said to even gauge how loudly a person is talking so it will appropriately type in small or large letters and so on. It even has four different text colors, so the story goes.
Inclusion of the voice technology hasn’t been confirmed by Nintendo, but I have to admit it would be pretty cool. And, it would give Wii yet another selling point in its already impressive list of them.
Wii’s the topic of many rumors as of late, including its pricing and release date. The pricing rumors fall in between $170 and about $250, while the release bounces between Oct. 2 and sometime in November.
Big announcements about the next-gen console are expected next month. Hopefully, the official word will separate the fact from the fiction. In the meantime, those who find themselves wishing for an affordable console that can do the talking for them can keep on dreaming.
And, of course, there’s the Nintendo promise to fall back on: Wii will change everything.
