With fall looming ever closer, Microsoft’s plans for winning the next-gen battle are slowly coming to light.
First, it was the announcements of big games such as Halo 3, Forza 2 and Gears of War. Then came the denial of the price cut rumor that turned out to be no rumor at all.
Now it seems Microsoft is cutting some of the prices on games for its Xbox 360 system. The gaming company has announced a pricing structure it’s calling the Xbox 360 Classics range. The “classics” (kind of funny considering the console hasn’t turned 1 yet, but hey, it’s Microsoft) will include a series of older top sellers that will have their prices lowered from £49.99 to £19.99, per Virgin.
Word is Kameo and Perfect Dark Zero will relaunch in October with the new, lower pricing.
With a 10 pound price drop on the console already confirmed and now the game price drop, it’s clear Microsoft intends to battle in the affordability arena. While it’s unlikely it will ever be able to get down into the range Wii will offer, making the price gap between itself and Sony’s console even bigger is just downright brilliant. At the very least, it’s going to make my checkbook a lot happier when the “classics” roll out in the U.S.
I'm not entirely sure we'll see a slashing as big as what's being reported, but it sure would give MS a leg up on the competition.
