Electronic Arts has teamed up with Nokia to provide some major gaming action for folks on the go. The companies have announced a deal that will bring seven of EA’s biggest titles to the mobile world.
On tap for phone gamers are such EA hits as The Sims, Doom, Tetris and FIFA 06. The games will roll out this holiday season over the Nokia Content Discoverer portal, which is embedded in nine Nokia models. Another six more are expected to come online by the end of the year.
There’s no word on how much the games will cost for cell phone users, but this is no doubt a big boon for Nokia. In addition to the seven titles set to launch this year, EA has agreed to create custom-designed games for Nokia S60 models, too.
Cell phone games and other perks are becoming a hot commodity. With companies like Verizon rolling out newer, hotter cell phone models and Amp’d making a name of its own with shows like “Lil’ Bush” available exclusively to customers, the EA/Nokia team up will help give Nokia a different kind of edge.
Personally, I still can’t figure out the attraction to playing video games on a cell-phone sized screen. I can’t imagine trying to play Doom on a 1-inch by 2-inch block, by hey, to each his (or her) own.
