It’s the first-person title that made the Xbox the Xbox and now it appears as if Microsoft intends to redefine it for the next-gen race. The Halo franchise is getting another new addition with many more to come.Halo Wars is currently under development through Ensemble Studios as a real-time strategy game. The title will be made exclusively for the 360 and will have gamers taking charge of the human UNSC armies in a timeline that takes place before the original Halo during the first encounters with the Covenant.
The move to the RTS format for this title is in line with Microsoft’s plans to tap Peter Jackson’s storytelling abilities for a different project. This title further expands the franchise that now includes a graphic novel and a movie on the way.
But, Ensemble has the best explanation as to the whys behind the RTS format: “Warthogs are cool. Scorpions are cool. Controlling lots of Warthogs and Scorpions and sending them into battle is really, really cool.”
I couldn’t have said it better myself!
The new Halo will likely hit the streets sometime next year and already has a trailer available with lots of cool screenshots. There’s even a possibility gamers will be able to play as the Covenant.
