When it comes to epic screen storytellers, few directors can match the abilities of Peter Jackson. And now it seems Jackson will be delivering more of his storytelling abilities to the video game industry.Mr. Lord of the Rings himself has signed on with Microsoft to help create a game based on the Halo game franchise. The game won’t exactly be what hard-core gamers are used to, but fans can count on one heck of a storyline and an even better delivery.
Jackson's also agreed to create a completely different game beyond the Halo title. The Halo game is expected to launch along with the movie sometime in 2008.
The games will be a “new form of interactive entertainment,” says Jackson, who admits he very much likes the games genre. “More and more I'm looking forward to the release of games and not movies. I am more aware and excited about games."
Jackson is also looking at the new deal as a different way to deliver stories. "Technology is at a point where we can blend a lot of film storytelling with interactive entertainment."
The new games, when developed, will be made available for Xbox 360 gamers. They will be created through Jackson’s Wingnut with the Halo title also involving Bungie.
It sounds like both Microsoft and Jackson have some big plans for gamers. It will be interesting to see what they come out with and if the ideas will fly with gamers themselves.
