
As Sony admitted partial defeat in its worldwide launch plans, Microsoft was gearing up for its big Japanese console announcement. Inasmuch, this week's news was once again dominated by the next-gen players.
Let’s take a look at some of the stories that also made headlines in between the next-gen battles:
Jessica Simpson Artist Of The Month
Xbox Live has announced its artist of the month for September. Jessica Simpson’s in the spotlight with a big push on for her latest release, “A Public Affair.”

Half-Life 2: Episode One Commentary
As Valve really began to kick up the PR machine for Half-Life 2: Episode Two, a fellow writer discovered some hidden treasurers in Episode One’s developer commentaries. The extras, it seems, unveil some neat things within the game some players might not have spotted.

2K Games intends to release the Sid Meier’s Civilization Chronicles in October. The compliation will include 10 titles in one for a reasonable $69.99.
The nifty package buy will also come with a Civilization tabletop card game, a book about the series, a DVD and more. All in all not a bad deal for $69.99.
And if that weren’t enough, 2K also indents to publish Jade Empire for the PC.
World of Warcraft Breaks 7-million mark
We all knew it was coming, but it’s still pretty amazing to behold. The MMORPG title World of Warcraft has broken the 7 million paid subscriber mark. That equates to almost $1 billion in revenues.
That’s a pretty amazing accomplishment when you think about it.
Seven million people is way more even Blizzard probably thought it could pull off at launch. Even Microsoft execs are impressed.
Rich Wickham, Microsoft’s games unit’s boss, has been quoted as saying "World of Warcraft is an incredibly polished entertainment experience that appeals to more sorts of different players than any game I've seen...It's fun for both casual players and for the hard-core players for whom the game is more just than a game: it's a lifestyle. Just as important, Blizzard has made a game that has a broader global appeal than what we've seen before."
Chromehounds Patch Released
Sega’s Chromehounds for the Xbox 360 has had some problems, but it seems the company has finally come through with some fixes for the issues, or at least some of them.
The big patch released Sept. 6 includes fixes for network stability, negative funds, game play issues and more.
The game looks awesome, but regretfully, I have not had a chance to check it out yet.
