The first big banner ad for the PlayStation 3 has hit the streets of New York City. The banner’s big. It’s flashy. It’s certainly smarter and more stylish than other Sony-created ad spectacles. It’s most certainly reminiscent of Dali’s interesting take on the world as others have pointed out.
But, there’s a critical error in the theme in my opinion.
A sense of surrealism might in fact have been exactly what the designers were going for, but frankly the melting clock just reminded me of the overheating problems that showed up with the console at the Tokyo Game Show.
Rather than illicit a sense of wonder and amazement and make me think the PS3 would offer a great gaming experience, the pictures of the ad Gizmodo has posted on its site make me think: Warning! Warning!
Maybe it’s just me?
It’s very likely the campaign was well into play before the overheating took place, but still, the connection struck instantly when I saw the shots.
Again, maybe it’s just me, or perhaps Sony has bad timing on its ad. Pardon the pun.
