There’s some good news and bad news on the PlayStation 3 front, and the bad news is smoking hot - literally. The good news is that the PS3 controller finally has a name – Sixaxis. The controller’s name comes from the “six degrees of freedom” found in the tilt-enabled device.
The controller sounds pretty slick with a USB port for optional wired play and Bluetooth abilities.
Now, for the bad news.
Digital Battle is reporting that Sony’s stock has taken yet another PS3-related hit thanks to word out of the Tokyo Game Show event that there was some trouble with PS3 overheating.
Analyst David Gibson acknowledged the venue could be to blame, but is quoted as saying “We are concerned that such a problem has occurred so close to full production and is clearly negative news for the company.”
Sony’s response is that the overheating shouldn’t occur in normal home situations, but with the whole battery fiasco still ongoing, it would seem stockholders weren’t so sure. Sony’s shares fell 2.75 percent.
Frankly, overheating issues aren't that surprising considering the venue, but it really couldn't have come at a worse time for Sony.
