If Sony Online Entertainment and Sigil Games Online’s Vanguard: Saga of Heroes is all it’s cracked up to be, Blizzard might have a reason to be concerned.
Building on the lessons learned from other MMORPGs like EverQuest I and II, Vanguard sounds like it will be a middle-of-the-road game that will offer challenge with a break from the tedium many MMORPGs tend to dole out. If the balance works, the title could be well on its way to success even before it’s launch.
Speaking of the launch, it appears as if the title’s running right on track. Sony has announced pre-orders will be taken starting in early December and the official release is still set for the first quarter of 2007.
The pre-orders come with some nifty features, too, that make them worth taking a look at for those who intend to jump ship from other games to give the world of Vanguard a whirl. They include early access to the game, specialized running speed enhancement for a single character on an account, an invite to open beta and more. And, that’s just the regular pre-order box at retail for $49.99.
The collector’s and guild edition, which will set gamers back about $90, offers many other bonuses, including an art book, cloth map and guild kit.
Wii was on the top of my Christmas list, but reality has set in. I think Vanguard just took its spot!
