Gamers who doubt the serious thought going into the Vanguard project only have to turn to Sigil Games’ founder Brad McQuaid for reassurances.
McQuaid has been quoted as saying the new MMO is being designed to be a “never-ending” title. “We have it all mapped out for the next 7 or so years."
On the table for the game, which is expected to go live sometime in the first quarter of next year, are monthly content additions to go along with annual expansions. With these being planned out in advance of the original launch, it's very possible later expansions won't feel forced as they have in other MMORPGs. The long-term planning is very smart.
If Vanguard holds true to what sounds like a very good development plan, the title could in fact survive a full seven years or more. Just look at the original EverQuest’s longevity. The goal for Vanguard is to strike a balance between spoon-feeding players and challenge. If it falls in the middle point that developers are striving for, Vanguard could give titles like WoW real runs for their money.
The game’s currently in Stage 3 beta testing with preorder expected to come around the holiday time. I, for one, have my cash counted and ready to go.
