Vanguard’s Eye Candy Is Incredible - 2.10.06

Vanguard
With a trailer that’s captivating and screenshots that are amazingly detailed, the latest MMORPG in Sony’s stable looks like it’s coming along rather well.

Vanguard is currently in closed beta testing with a release expected some time next year. GameSpy has it dated as January, but only time will tell if that's on the mark.

Neither Sony or Sigil are giving a hard date on the title, but it appears as if Sony is counting on this being a big one. The game has bumped EQII from the first listings off of Sony’s home page under “Online Games,” “PC Games.” Considering the dedication Sony has actually shown to the EQ titles, this is no small feat. It's also interesting to note that the original EQ remains in the top listings.

Based on both the screenshots and the trailer, Vanguard appears reminiscent of both EQ and EQII, but it definitely looks like it will be its own game. Both visual glimpses into the game show a world that looks much more detailed than either of the EQ titles. The eye candy is breathtaking.

Based on developer chat, it also appears as if Vanguard has taken some lessons learned from those titles and others and put them use in this game. It sounds like it will strike a balance between tedium and spoon feeding, which is a good thing.

The game’s set in Telon where heroes are in high demand. It will feature 19 races and 15 professions in an online world that’s powered by Sony.

Have to admit, I might be bidding Norrath a fond farewell when this title hits the streets.
