WoW's Burning Crusade Delayed - 24.10.06

World of WarcraftWord of Warcraft fans keeping their fingers crossed for a Burning Crusade Christmas are going to have to put something else on their holiday lists. Blizzard has announced BC won’t launch until January 2007.

The delay is designed to give development a few extra weeks to ensure the new content is “refined” for shipment.

“We appreciate the enthusiasm surrounding World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade, and we’re excited about putting the finishing touches on all of the new content,” said Mike Morhaime, president and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment in a media release. “We feel confident that the extra time spent polishing the game will result in the high-quality experience that our players expect and deserve.”

The delay isn’t necessarily a bad thing. It’s better for Blizzard to keep its content and quality high, rather than rush to the market. The company’s protecting a large customer base (and itself) from disappointment.

Gamers might balk, but they’ll likely forgive quickly if Burning Crusade is all it’s cracked up to be.

Specific release dates and final pricing are expected in the near future, too.
