Word on the street is Microsoft is sticking with its 10-million unit projection for the Xbox 360 by the end of the year. This means Microsoft will have to sell about 4 million units over the busy holiday period. Can it do it?
That’s the real question. With competition coming on the market from the PlayStation 3 and the Wii both in time for the holidays, it will be close. Considering the fact, too, that only 1 million 360s have sold between July and now, it could be a big reach.
However, since the available PS3s will only fall in around 500,000 worldwide at launch in about three weeks, Microsoft might just get a break. But, four million by the end of the year could be reaching.
Despite this, Microsoft is holding firm to its projections. With a huge expansion for the Halo franchise and other big releases coming up, like Gears of War, who knows, it could pull it off.
