PS3 2-Day Sales Numbers Are Pitiful - 15.11.06

Playstation 3
The numbers are in, and it’s official, the official release of the PlayStation 3 in Japan was anything but stellar for game makers.

Kotaku is reporting that total hardware sales fell in at 81,639, with 45,774 being 60 gig versions and 35,865 20 gig.

On the software sales front, the numbers look really bad with a total of 66,684 games being sold. As the folks at Kotaku point out, that’s nearly 15,000 console owners who didn’t buy a single game.

Any way you crack it, the numbers are not hot. It’s my guess the U.S. numbers will look a little better proportionally, but the total sales figures for the Wii will blow it away.

It’s also my guess the 15,000 who didn’t buy a game were the ones who quickly reported the backward compatibility issues. After all, how many folks can really afford to shell out for a PS3 and buy a bunch of games, too?
