PS3 Shortages Starting - 14.11.06

Playstation 3 Video game retailer GameStop has announced that it’s going to have fewer PlayStation 3s on launch day, Nov. 17, than it originally expected.

To muddy the waters more, the retail giant has said Sony’s shipped more 20 gig HDD versions than 60 gig – about 60 percent more.

This means gamers who put deposits down on preorders might walk away empty handed for a day or two or 10 as Sony gets its shipments and production straightened out. But, gamers should take a little comfort in the fact Sony says it’s working as fast as it can to fill the orders.

Per 1up, "The allocations are going to change every day. We are shipping via air, so as soon as a palette is full in Japan its sent over here. There will be a November 18, November 19 et cetera."

A word of caution here to those who managed to get in on preorders – don’t blame the poor GameStop employees for the delay. This one can be chalked up to Sony and Sony alone.

Besides, those who wait might get PS3s that work as they are intended, rather than the non-backward compatible machines Japan found itself with.
