With a launch that left much to be desired and a console that’s just not working right for many gamers – especially on the backwards compatibility issue – one would think the execs at Sony would be humble and sincere right about now.Of course, that’s just not the case.
Sony’s Jack Tretton has been flapping his gums about the lack of third-party exclusive games for the console, trying to take pot shots at Microsoft along the way. He actually tries to make it sound like a good thing the PS3 doesn't have exclusives.
According to a piece in Kotaku, Tretton’s said “We really feel like we're well positioned to contribute platform-defining games from a first-party standpoint, and we're not dependent on third-party community to the degree that a Microsoft would be.”
Prior to Sony’s development of an uber ego, Take-Two and Rockstar wanted to continue their exclusive relationship with Sony. Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed, too, was supposed to be a PS3 only title. But with no green light from Sony, they moved on.
And with statements like “Desperation breeds deep pockets. Confidence breeds the opposite,” would anyone blame them?
Looks like Sony could find itself alone in the dark with its “confidence,” err unbelievable arrogance. Well, that and its huge losses per console.
