As Sony reels in its projected unit numbers for the PlayStation 3, the folks over at Nintendo sound like they should be all smiles about the impending launch of Wii.That electronics company is reportedly on track to deliver more than 4 million Wii consoles by year’s end. To help make sure that happens, Nintendo has readied a veritable fleet of trucks, ships, planes and trains to keep the flow of delivery going.
Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America’s president, has been quoted as saying he expects the demand for Wii to be “staggering.”
"Because of demand, we're urging shoppers not to get complacent. The level of demand we're seeing goes beyond the ordinary. Retailers are telling us a significant fraction of customers pre-ordering Wii are nontraditional gamers - people looking for a better way to play. And that's exactly what Wii is designed to provide."
Those are statements from a man whose company seems to have its ducks in a row when it comes to launching a new product. Unlike both Microsoft and Sony, it appears as if Nintendo will have a relatively bump-free launch. Granted, shortages will no doubt plague the launch, but at least it sounds like Nintendo's on top of getting consoles out to market quickly and efficiently.
The system goes live Nov. 19 in America. It hits Japanese stores Dec. 2. The PS3 deprived Europeans will get their Wiis Dec. 8.
