In a completely different story from the bloody release of the Sony PlayStation 3, Nintendo debuted its family friendly Wii without any major incidents being reported.
The reason for the difference is aptly pointed out in the Edmonton Sun where they point to the release figure numbers. Sony had 400,000 consoles to go around. Nintendo, as promised, had several million.
Also, as promised, Nintendo had its Wii online service up and running for those who did manage to get their hand on the cheaper, friendlier console. But this is where the delivering on promises gets a bit murky.
The virtual console games on Wii have some ups and downs, gamers are reporting. The biggest down seems to be the need to manually reset TVs back to 4:3 mode for proper display every time the system is used. There’s also no TurboGrafx games as of yet, as one gamer has reported.
On the upside, there are 12 games currently available. They include Donkey Kong, Pinball, Wario’s Woods, Sonic and Super Mario 64.
A patch is hoped for by gamers to fix the aspect ration problem. Considering Nintendo’s been pretty good on delivering on its promises to date, I’d venture a guess this will be forthcoming as will an improved lineup on the system.
