Sega and Sanrio are teaming up to truly bring Hello Kitty into the 21st century. The two companies have announced a deal that will bring the loveable, but funny looking, feline to video gamers.According to a piece in Channel News Asia, the business alliance might also include the creation of other products and services.
"Under the agreement, for example, Hello Kitty may appear in our video game software," a Sega Sammy spokesman said.
I don’t normally report on children’s games, or at least all that often, but this one really caught my attention. Hello Kitty was created in 1974 by Sanrio and is experiencing a major resurgence today, along with a whole host of other characters from the 1970s and ‘80s.
I’m finding the retro phenomena pretty interesting as I watch my daughters swoon over titles I used to love (and in some cases despise.) From Hello Kitty and Holly Hobby to The Care Bears and beyond, it seems that what was once old is new again.
Hello Kitty in a video game would be pretty cool, I have to admit. And, I’m willing to bet any titles would be those I wouldn’t have to worry about pre-screening too heavily.
