You’ve got to hand it to the folks at Sony. Only their executives could make an attempt to spin the PlayStation 3’s dismal launch figures into a positive statement.Responding to November’s 197,000 units sold figures, the company came out with such statements as “Sony Computer Entertainment America is very pleased with the NPD data for November, showing outstanding sales for all of its platforms,” according to a piece in 1UP.
Wow, were they reading the same figures the rest of us were?
Evidently not: “These figures clearly demonstrate the strength of the PlayStation family of products in the US market. PLAYSTATION 3 remains one of the most sought after items this holiday season, selling through almost immediately in all retailers once placed on store shelves.”
Well, no kidding!
When hundreds of thousands consoles and a “worldwide” launch were promised and only a half of that and two regions were delivered, of course they sold out.
I’m not sure what planet Sony’s PR people and executives come from, but I’m pretty sure it’s not this one.
Granted, the PS2 is still rocking in sales, justifying some of the hubris, but once, just once I’d love to hear a person from Sony tell it like it is.
Heck, Microsoft even pulled off better numbers last November.
