David Karraker, Sony’s American PR chief, has gone on the record saying the manufacturing problems that led to the shortage of PlayStation 3s at launch has been remedied.“While initial day-one launch shipment goals weren’t achievable due to early manufacturing issues, those problems have been resolved and we do remain focused on having one million PS3s in the pipeline by December 31, 2006," Karraker’s been quoted as saying.
Karraker said the company intends to continue to use airfreight deliver to make sure there’s a steady stream of PS3s in North America through the end of the year.
While it’s not likely this will completely fix the shortage issue right away, if it’s true and production is where it should be, that could correct itself shortly. I'm not sure they'll make the 1 million mark, but with Sony's rep on the line, it could happen.
