Sony’s released its first major system software update for the PlayStation3. The version 1.3 software update includes such things as BD remote control registration, a backup utility and more. The highlights include:
Video output resolution: This has change, allowing gamers to choose all resolutions supported by their television sets. The default video setting will be the highest resolution possible, going in order from 1080p down to 480p.
Backup utility: This feature can be found under System Settings. It enables gamers to pack up their hard disk data to storage and restore data, as well.
USB peripherals: Those designed for PS2 titles, such as steering wheels, can now be used when PS2 games are played on the PS3.
A full listing of update features can be found here. The official Sony release also includes instructions on how to download and put the update into play.
Sounds like a pretty useful update, and very likely only one in a long line of things to come.
