If you’re hoping to get your hands on a PS3, but have been wondering what all the hoopla about backwards compatibility is, there’s an industrious YouTuber that has taken the time to show just how bad the video quality is on old games played on the new machine.
“No matter what type of TV you are using … no matter what video cables you use … your PS1 and PS2 games will look like utter shit when played on the PS3,” proclaims the opening sequence of “The truth about PS3 backwards compatibility.”
The video goes on to show a few old titles played on the PS3 versus their intended consoles and very clearly shows the creator’s anger that Sony isn’t working on fixing this issue with the diligence gamers expect.
The veracity of the video is something I cannot speak to, but if the image distortions are correct, Sony has a lot of work to do to make the PS3 right with gamers once they buy the console.
Sony execs promised backwards compatibility, and gamers remember that. Sony needs to deliver, or the 360 and Wii will continue to look like better buys.
