It seems the PlayStation 3 won’t be the only console Sega’s Virtua Fighter 5 will make an appearance on. Sega’s announced the title will in fact hit the Xbox 360 in the summer of 2007.In the meantime, gamers can check out the title much sooner if they happen to own a PS3. The formerly exclusive title is expected to roll out on Feb. 20 in North America for that console.
Why the exclusive launch was nixed despite Sega’s statements back in May that it would be PS3 only is unclear. However, this seems like a smart move for Sega just based on simple numbers. Using both the PS3 and the 360 as platforms will open up the door for more sales.
My guess is the answer to the why is just that basic. The PS3 isn’t a market dominator as of yet. To make money, third party creators have to sell games. Combining the two consoles equates to more potential sales.
And, it’s good news for arcade-style fighting game fans, too.
