It was only a matter of time before a lawsuit was filed in relation to Nintendo’s nifty Wii remote.
My guess has been the suit would stem from a Wii-related injury, but that’s not the case. No one is suing over a broken TV or a maimed dog. The legal action doesn’t even come from a person with a pulled muscle or craned neck.
Instead, this suit comes from a California company, Interlink Electronics. The company is alleging the Wii controller violates its February 2005 patent on a “trigger-operated electronic device,” according to Boomtown. The patent also includes a pointing sensor.
The company is seeking cash and a ban on Nintendo’s use of the product.
It will be interesting to watch where this one goes. It’s my hope Nintendo’s not involved in anything shady with this console. Everything’s been going so well for the underdog machine, it would sure stink to see a tarnish on a practically perfect launch record.
