Wii Runs Away With Google Searches - 29.12.06

Wii
The Google Trends tool is a pretty nifty little device to check out. It quickly creates graphs that help compare searches within the Google system. Granted, it’s not a “scientific study” or a proper poll, but it does give a very good indication of what Google users are looking up and checking out.

In the case of the next-gen video game consoles, 2006 has been the year of the Xbox 360. For most of the year, the console topped searches in most regions. The exceptions to that included Japan, which is a no-brainer and Panama. In Japan, the leader was the PS3, which also isn’t a shocker.

The above graph demonstrates the searches for Wii in blue, the PlayStation 3 in red and the 360 in orange. The data represents January through November for all regions.

While there aren’t many surprises in how the regions stack up, what is interesting to note is the jump in Wii’s search popularity in November. In the month many of us expected the PS3 to dominate, Wii pulled out far ahead and kept the PS3 in a No. 2 spot while knocking the 360 to No. 3.
