
It appears as if customers complained and Nintendo answered – quickly.
There are pictures about that show what appears to be a newer, thicker strap for the Wii remote. Kotaku is showing off what does look like an altered remote with an improved strap.
The improvements come on the heels of reports the Wii remote’s strap would break under strenuous play. Last week, Nintendo assured gamers the strap was under investigation and the company has also taken the effort to update warnings and safety tips for Wii play.
The Kotaku report suggests the new straps went live in Australia and possibly Europe, as well.
I’ve not seen any official reports from Nintendo on this, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t true. With how fast they’re making Wiis and shipping them out, it’s not beyond the realm of possibility they changed the strap specs shortly after hearing the reports of breakage and injury.
Kudos to Nintendo if this is true and not a fluke in a few boxes.
