Retailers are gearing up for another late night courtesy of a video game release.
This time, however, it’s not a next-gen console generating such interest.
In this case, it’s Blizzard Entertainment’s Burning Crusade expansion for World of Warcraft that has stores thinking gamers will line up early and stay up late to get their hands on a copy.
Retails and Blizzard are so sure of this, in fact, they’ve set up for special midnight signing events in California to commemorate the game’s release. The events start at midnight Jan. 16 and will include appearances by development team members. The stores taking part are Fry’s Electronics and EB Games/Game Stop.
According to Shacknews, gamers can check retail outlets where they live for any midnight opening plans in their areas.
With more than 7.5 million players worldwide, WoW is the biggest MMORPG on the block and it keeps growing. Considering its fan base, it’s not surprising retailers are expecting a rush on the title. It’s my guess this particular title will be about as hard to find as a Wii on opening day.
