Wii Beating, Xbox 360, PS3 On Interest - 30.1.07

next-gen sales
Compete.com has a great analysis of shoppers’ interest in the next-gen consoles, and if it’s any indication, Nintendo’s Wii is going to be the console to beat.

According to their chart of weekly in-market video console demand in the U.S. market, the Xbox 360 won the holiday race, outselling the PS3 and Wii combined. The question, of course, is how much these numbers might have changed if the PS3 and Wii had been in large enough supply to meet the demand.

While the number of sales that could have been is pretty much a moot issue at this point, what is interesting to note in Compete’s research is the strength of the Wii in capturing attention. The site has reported the Wii is currently attracting more interest in online shoppers while the PS3 and the Xbox 360 are virtually tied for second place.

The jury is still out on who wins the next-gen race, but from my perspective, all three consoles have their own unique draws.

Nods to Ars Technica.
