World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade
Those lines for copies of World of Warcraft’s upcoming Burning Crusade expansion might be a little longer than expected. The MMORPG has breached the 8-million subscriber milestone.

According to Blizzard Entertainment’s media release, the game has a massive following in China with 3.5 million players, more than 2 million in North America, 1.5 million in Europe, with other countries filling in the gap to reach the 8 million point.

“We're ecstatic that the World of Warcraft community has continued to grow steadily since we launched the game," said Mike Morhaime, president and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. "This milestone wouldn't have been possible for us to achieve without the incredible support of our players. With the release of our expansion pack, World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade™, coming next week, we're looking forward to welcoming more players to Azeroth and offering even more quality content for our community to enjoy."

Burning Crusade hits the streets on Jan. 16 and already game stores (wisely) are planning midnight opening events for the title.

It's hard to imagine a MMORPG that's still growing in leaps and bounds more than a year since its initial release, but that's exactly what this title is doing. It's the biggest game going and it's not really showing any signs of slowing down.
