As Sony picks on the other consoles in the next-gen field, Electronic Arts is expressing its disappointment with sales of titles made for the PlayStation 3.Frank Gibeau, EA’s executive vice president, said during a conference call about the company’s quarter end financial result that he “disappointed” at the ration of games sold per PS3 console.
According to Action Trip, EA hold a 32% share of PS3 game revenue based on $41 million in orders from retailers and distributors (900,000-plus units at $44.99 wholesale) through the holiday quarter.
Gibeau said the lack of sales can be blamed on the fact many console buyers were simply out to do a fast turn around on eBay and weren’t actually interested in buying games. He called the phenomena the “eBay effect.”
My guess is there are quite a few PS3 owners out there who couldn’t afford game titles after buying the console, too. Plus, with the pickings kind of slim, there aren’t a whole lot of games worth the price, at least that was the case at launch.
