While it's not carved in stone, a Sony spokesperson has confirmed rumors that the company is toying with the idea of creating a bigger, better version of the PlayStation 3.The news comes on the heels of Sony's FCC application for an 80GB PS3, and following many rumors that this announcement would be forthcoming.
The spokesperson, Satoshi Fukuoka, has been quoted as saying the notion is "in line with our strategy as we had planned to choose models based on consumer needs."
The creation of an 80GB version and the dropping of the 20GB model all make sense in light of Microsoft's recent Elite announcements. Keeping up with the competition while working to develop better games for the PS3 could mean the difference between success or failure for the next-gen console.
