Microsoft has announced that it’s going to put out a Platinum Hits line for the Xbox 360 in the spirit of the original Xbox line. This means good “old” games will get nifty new packaging and lower prices.
It’s hard to think of any Xbox 360 game being worthy of a “greatest
hits” type line as of yet, but the price reduction will be very much
welcomed by fans.
The news, according to Digital Battle, is that titles such as Project Gotham Racing 3, Need for Speed Most Wanted and even Perfect Dark Zero will come out under this line starting Oct. 15 for a greatly reduced price of $29.99.
Another round of titles will hit the stores in spring 2007.
A similar marketing move has already been announced for the UK, as well. The “classic” line for the 360 there will include titles like Condemned, PDZ and King Kong.
The cheaper titles will likely help the 360 console compete more effectively when the PlayStation 3 arrives in stores Nov. 17. As long as the 360 stock is kept up, it’s likely this could be a good holiday season for Microsoft between its newly reduced price consoles, new HD-DVD drive and now cheaper games.
According to Microsoft’s Mitch Koch, there will be about 10 million 360s in circulation by the end of the year.
