For the budget-conscience gamer looking to get the best bang for their dollar, you might want to throw an eye on the overclocked variation of the Radeon HD 5850 series from Asus. The EAH 5850 Top Edition from Asus boasts 10% better performance from a factory overclock. The card has a core clock speed of 765 mhz, up from 725 mhz from the reference design. It has 1Gb of GDDR5 vram, 1440 stream processing units, and the 256 bit ram is clocked at 1125 mhz.
On the back you have one full-size hdmi out, 1 dvi port and display port connector. You can use the display port connector to hook up 2 dvi connections for a multi-display setup. There is also a vent where the monitor connections are to let some hot air out the back of your case. This Asus card has a very nice looking open-end design. One fan blows on the heat-sink which dissipates the hot air away from the card, most of which is well exposed if you have good ventilation in your case.
The 5850 is listed on Amazon for $289.99 which is the same price most other retailers are offering, including Newegg. If you’re in the market for a mid-range card and don’t fancy messing around with overclocking then this EAH 5850 might just be right up your alley. trubritar has an unboxing video posted, with benchmarks to follow (See below).
