Friday brought reports that an unfinished build of Crytek’s upcoming Crysis sequel was leaked to the internet and gone viral across the usual torrent sites. The beta build which weighs in at a hefty 9Gb plus, apparently contains the full single/multiplayer game with a way to circumvent the online authentication.
Crytek must be worried that this is going to somehow damage sales of the game. In a short post on the EA website they urged fans to wait until the finished version is released on March 22nd and not to bother with this early build.
Crytek has been alerted that an early incomplete, unfinished build of Crysis 2 has appeared on Torrent sites. Crytek and EA are deeply disappointed by the news. We encourage fans to support the game and the development team by waiting and purchasing the final, polished game on March 22. Crysis 2 is still in development and promises to be the ultimate action blockbuster as the series’ signature Nanosuit lets you be the weapon as you defend NYC from an alien invasion. Piracy continues to damage the PC packaged goods market and the PC development community.
I frankly don’t know anybody in their right mind that would download some early, unfinished version of the game from a dodgy torrent site, with the risk of infecting their PCs with a trojan or God knows what else. Not to mention the fact that you ought to buy the game anyway. How can we expect companies to invest all this money into developing a game if every Joe “pinch penny” just goes and downloads it without paying.
You only have to wait a few more weeks and the full, polished game will be there to enjoy. I urge anyone thinking of grabbing it with Utorrent or whatever means to just hang on until March and support Crytek.
