3.6% of Windows 7 users have adopted IE9

IE9 has a 3.6% market share on Windows 7According to a blog post from the Windows Team, Microsoft’s newly minted Internet Explorer 9 is enjoying a 3.6% share on Windows 7. This is based on March usage of the new browser.

The beta and release candidate of IE9 were downloaded a total of 36 million times igniting interest among Windows users like never before. After the first 24hrs of the final release on March 14th, Microsoft reported 2.3 million downloads of the final build.

In the midst of promoting Internet Explorer 9 Microsoft has been actively trying to get users off Internet Explorer 6. IE6 although 10-years old still enjoys a 12% market share. But Microsoft is hoping to put a stop to that with the launch of its IE6 countdown website back in March.
