Counter-Strike: Source players who use the Steam portal can now invite their friends to checkout the online game. Steam recently announced the extension of the guest passes for CS:S players. A similar program has been in play for a while for Day of Defeat: Source players. Gamers who invite friends to play will be giving them three days of free action without an obligation to purchase. The guest pass and trial run trend is one that makes a whole lot of sense not only for gaming companies, but also gamers themselves. With games costing so much money and the choices for online play so extensive, taking a test drive when possible is just smart. I can’t tell you how many discarded games we have hanging around the house that we bought, played for five minutes and decided they weren’t worth the time. If only every Xbox 360, Wii or PS3 game came with a free trial! Gamers interested in learning more about Steam’s Guest Pass program or any games on Steam can check them out here. Eidos Interactive and Valve have announced a deal that will add dozens of new PC titles to Steam. The agreement will roll out with some very big names being available for download. Titles include such big franchise sets as Tomb Raider, Hitman and Commandos. “For over 10 years, Eidos has been a leading publisher on every major gaming platform," said Gabe Newell, co-founder and president of Valve in a media release. "Offering legendary action franchises in complete sets and working with Eidos to deliver new releases is a great step forward in our efforts to expand Steam's offerings, and to do so in ways that provide highest value to customers." Some of the titles went live on Steam today, including many of the Hitman games and Commandos. Prices range from $13.95 for Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines to $35.95 for Battlestations: Midway. The additions are really helping round out Steam, which already boasts games from such developers as Valve (of course), 2K, Activision and more for download.
