GTA: San AndreasSpong.com reports that files purported to be the highly anticipated new installlment of Grand Theft Auto have hit the file sharing networks.

The files are said to be the French version of the game, which is due for release on 10 November:

File sharing sites have the game listed for download, with one version weighing in at a whopping, not to mention credible, 3.95GB currently seeing a lot of activity. If this proves to be the game, it marks a worrying turn of events for Rockstar and the industry in general.

This would be the latest in a series of leaks of top games before their official release; Halo 2 appeared on the Internet Thursday, a month before it hit the shops, and DOOM 3 was also leaked in August.

A third single player demo of the creepy and controversial first person shooter/adventure, Painkiller has just been released. This demo features the Military Base level along with all the enhancements from the current version 1.35/1.4 codebase that will also be included in the upcoming Battle out of Hell expansion.

Players take on the role of Painkiller, an unusual mercenary who makes a living by exorcising vampires and other dreadful beasts from their lairs- abandoned prisons, private castles, deep caves in the mountains, extravagant haciendas hidden in the jungle. "Cleaning" those places is excellent money and helps our hero living a decadent lifestyle, until the day he is tricked into a war between two competing clans of the undead. An assignment to retrieve a religious artifact from one of the nests provokes a furious battle and he realizes he might have to play his own cards. Meanwhile, a young female journalist runs her own investigation and tries to uncover the mystery behind the witty,
captivating Latino who is the legendary Painkiller.

Sounds pretty corny i know, but i played it a little and it's actually quite a bit of fun. Nothing in the form of a thought provoking or enticing storyline, more a hack 'em and slash 'em kind of frolic. So if that is your thing then it might be of some interest to you.

A demo has just been released of the much anticipated sequel to Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. Warrior Within is scheduled for release to pc in early 2005. Sands of Time was greeted with much praise by fans of the old Amiga and Commodore versions, with its ultra realistic character models, intuitive game play style, good storyline and engrossing sountrack.

The Demo itself features a trailer for the game plus one fully playable level and tutorial of the game.

The Prince has to embark upon a path of both carnage and mystery to defy his preordained death. His journey leads to the infernal core of a cursed island stronghold harboring mankind's greatest fears.

Only through grim resolve, bitter defiance and the mastery of deadly new combat arts can the Prince rise to a new level of warriorship - and emerge from this ultimate trial with his life.

In order to accomplish his mission, the Prince benefits from a brand new free-form fighting system that allows gamers to channel his anger as they wage battle without boundaries. Each game fan will find his or her own unique fighting style as they manipulate their environment and control the Ravages of Time. You can dig into an arsenal of weapons that, when used in combination, create advanced arm attacks that verge on fatal artistry!

Halo 2Less than a week after bungie announced Halo 2 Gold and released to manufacturing, a DVD copy has surfaced on the Internet.

The leak comes just under a month before the game will appear on shop shelves.

Microsoft are furious, and have issued a statement:

Microsoft has learned that a version of Halo 2 has been posted to various newsgroups and websites. We consider downloading this code or making it available for others to download as theft. We are currently investigating the source of this leak with the appropriate authorities. Pending the result of our investigation, we do not have further comment. Microsoft takes the integrity of it intellectual property extremely seriously, and we are aggressively pursuing the source of this illegal act. The launch of Halo 2 worldwide remains unaffected.

Bungie have also posted a message to their site calling for fans to help find the source of the leak:

Last night a pirated copy of Halo 2 was released onto the internet. Needless to say we think this really sucks. Aside from years of hard work being stolen from us, we've gone to great lengths to ensure that the details of the Halo 2 campaign remain a mystery for players to experience for themselves on November 9th. Microsoft is currently engaged in a full scale investigation and to those foolish enough to partake in this piracy, you will soon witness the firepower of this fully operational battle station.

The appeal to fans may pay off; the arrests of the hackers who stole the Half-Life 2 source code was aided by fans of the game.

This leak also mirrors the early leaking of DOOM 3 more than a week before its official release - that saw 100,000 copies being circulated within a very short time, but did not affect sales of the game to a large degree.

Half-Life 2Hlfallout.net point to a report by an anonymous industry insider who says the release date for Half-life 2 is not a matter of Vivendi sitting on a finished game, but rather it is dependent on fixing bugs.

They're being very careful about getting a stable release out the door and with all the big reviews hitting the net I'm not surprised. It's looking to be something very special. The delays are not Vivendi sitting on a finished game or Valve not playing fair.

The post is by an "anonymous insider" and so should be taken with a pinch of salt, but if true it gives insight into the status of the release.

The first release candidate was sent to the publisher on 15 Sept, but reports stated that Vivendi had the option of with-holding the release for six months - even if the game was complete.

Recent articles on Gamespot about court disputes between Valve and Vivendi painted a picture of the two companies at each others throats, with Vivendi even going so far as to claim the rights to the Half-Life intellectual property.

The Punisher XBox screenshot

THQ yesterday announced that their shooter based on The Punisher will include the voice of actor Thomas Jane, who played the lead role in the movie.

The title, due for release in Jan 2005 will also be available on the PC (XBox & Playstation 2 versions were initially announced).

The company announced a PC version is being developed in tandem with the console products and is scheduled to launch simultaneously. The Punisher, developed by THQ's internal developer Volition IncĀ®, will feature Marvel's darkest antihero Frank Castle as he takes on his greatest enemies from a history that spans over 30 years.

The movie, released last April is an adaptation of the Marvel Comics series, and was rated R for "Pervasive Brutal Violence"

It was not widely acclaimed (28% aggregate total on Rotten Tomatoes), but the original comics were a firm favourite and those are what the new game will be based on.

Lineage 2 screenshot
Screenshot of the new race track from RedAssedBaboon - Check here for screens

A race track and lottery will be added to the game for free next month, making Lineage II one of the first MMOs to have a formal in-game gambling system.

The race track will allow players to bet on monsters who will run an eigh-lane track every 30 minutes during the game's day. Twenty minutes before a race, players will be able to review the monsters' names, their racing histories and track conditions and then purchase a ticket.

Players can bet who they think will win or which two they think will be in first and second, known as a quinnella bet in the real world.

Winners will be paid out in adena. The amount paid out will be based on the number of tickets sold and the pay-out rate.

The in-game lottery will run several times a week in real-time. Players will have to pick five numbers and if they match as few as two they will win something.
