« Igniq.com Gaming News - Bookmark this site Advertisements Some good news for fans of MYST and Cyan Worlds - the company has somehow managed to claw its way back from the brink of death after the news hit last month that most of its workforce was to be laid off.Just before MYST V: End of Ages was released, reports appeared on the blogs of Cyan employees that the company had been reduced to just two members of staff, co-founder Rand Miller and president Tony Fryman. The reason given for the dramatic news was that the company had failed to secure financial backing for their future projects. Presumably a backer has come through for them at the last minute however, as Rand Miller has told The Mercury News that Cyan has been given a "reprieve" and that most of its employees have been re-hired: But Cyan isn't dead yet. I sent an e-mail off to Rand and he answered, "We've had a reprieve. Managed to pull a rabbit out of the hat (that I can't give details about yet), so we rehired almost everybody. Crazy industry. It's giving me whiplash!" But Joystiq have discovered the magazine cover was a good publicity spinner for Future plc, but of no real value to Halo fans at all. As it turns out, the Halo 3 special doesn't actually contain any new information about the game at all, but instead consists of 6 pages of articles covering speculation from fans: The cover image refers to a 6-page feature that focuses on fan speculation. Neither the magazine nor the DVD contains screens, video, or even artists’ renders. So no, it wasn’t a hoax—but we still feel cheated… Halo 3 For May 2006 Release? Halo 3 to thwart Ps3 release? More information on Mark of Chaos can be gleaned from an in-depth interview with Namco's Chris Wren over on Gamespot. One detail Wren reveals is that the game will veer away from the traditional resource-gathering aspect of the RTS genre, with the focus mainly on fighting epic battles. Wren explained that the rules of the table-top game are mainly centered around combat and it'll be the same in Mark of Chaos, with gathering and upgrading taking place away from the battlefield in the capital city: What we've done is made it less a part of the battling and more something you do when you are not battling. For example, you will not send a serf off to chop a tree and take it to a mill, but you might capture a region with some resources, and use those resources to upgrade your capital or build some battlefield structures. In other words, you are not founding cities and building libraries along the warpath, but you might erect some defenses there. The capital is where the more traditional base-building and resource allocation is managed, and we've just made it more of a real-time tactical mechanic rather than a battlefield mechanic. Japan Poll Has Xbox 360 Still Trailing Behind PS3 (13 Sept) Discussion >> ![]() OrigenXbox360.com has finally ceased counting down and the site proper is now open for viewing. Those hoping for a Halo 3 announcement or a full-fledged alternate reality game with an involved storyline like ILoveBees will be disappointed; as it turns out the site is just a fairly lame vehicle for an Xbox 360 contest, replete with a "what gamers say about Xbox 360" testimonials-style page. The mysterious "Origen" is the U.S. launch party for the Xbox 360, and winning the contest will earn two gamers flights and tickets to the event. The random true-or-false contest questions are probably the only interesting thing about the site because they might reveal some previously unknown factoids. Examples include whether each Xbox 360 will include a secret, built-in racing game, or if the Thanksgiving Parade in New York this year will be led by a giant, inflatable 360. PSPUpdates.com have reported that the hack is genuine and allows both homebrew apps and UMD games to work, though they also give the usual warning that it is installed at your own risk: This takes advantage of the toc2rta exploit and allows for the full downgrade of firmware 2.0 to firmware 1.50. As you can see above, the main feature in the issue is Halo 3 and the tagline boasts that the "PS3 is dead. Welcome to the real next-gen..." alongside an image of the Master Chief. Only a brief mention of the game is made in the accompanying press release: On sale September 29th, issue 31 of Xbox World 360 takes a look into the future of Halo and features hands-on impressions of some of the hottest new games due to launch with the Xbox 360. In order to allocate enough RAM to run proper homebrew (e.g. emulators) kernel access is required. Only kernel code can allocate memory to user processes (homebrew).
