Advertisements Following our post yesterday about a woman who was swindled out of over $600 for a worthless photo of an Xbox 360, a man with a similar story contacted us through our tips form.Back in November, an auction called "Xbox 360 Prem Retail Box" was placed up on eBay; included in very fine print at the end of the page was the disclaimer that "no xbox36o is included within the package", though the seller would throw in a free PS1. The man who contacted us won the auction in the belief that he would soon have himself a brand new Premium Xbox 360, and the bidding was closed at $675. Further stop payments that weren't stopped pushed his total cost up to $826. After he realised he'd just forked out over $800 for an empty box and a PS1 worth about $70 on Amazon, the bidder contacted eBay and Paypal in order to set things right, but in the end he never even received the empty box: And I never even got the box on top of it, I got nothing and since november 18th ebay, paypal the seller and the bank have done nothing to make things right. The seller was from canada, if he was in the US i'd drive to his house and hospitatalize him, since thats the part of the law they dont let go anymore , and is why there is so much crime. People need a really good ass whooping. A few months ago, Nintendo revealed the Revolution would be priced "substantially lower" than the rival Xbox 360 and PS3, and now president Satoru Iwata has announced it will cost less than 39,975 yen (~339 USD) in a very brief article on Yahoo! News Japan. The low price was explained by Nintendo's Reggie Fils-Aime in an interview back in July, when he said the console would be chiefly a gaming system, and as such the price wouldn't be driven up by including extra features that aren't necessary for gaming: We are center of the plate gaming. I have to assume that from a pricing standpoint, we will be substantially lower than the competition, because we don't have all of that added fluff that a gamer, frankly, doesn't—it's not core to gaming. The main selling point of the Revolution is it's new user-friendly controller, which appears more like a TV remote than any games controller yet seen. In addition, the Revolution will act as a "virtual console", allowing gamers to download and play games from previous Nintendo consoles, from the NES right up to the GameCube. The Revolution is slated for release sometime during 2006.Translated Yahoo! ![]() Sales of the Nintendo DS have topped 5 million in Japan, less than 13 months after the gaming console’s December 2004 launch, according to Spong. That record makes the Nintendo DS the quickest selling console to hit the 5 million mark. The GBA took more than 14 months to reach that number and Sony’s PS2 took 17 months. Nintendo’s President Satoru Iwata attributed the phenomenal growth to the company’s sustained marketing campaigns targeting both the hardcore faithful and casual/non-traditional gamers. The announcement comes on the heels of the Japanese release of Microsoft’s Xbox 360, which despite a run on sales in North America was welcomed by consumers in Japan with a reception that was anything but warm. Stores in Japan reported consoles available hours after the game system’s release. In North America people are still waiting to get their hands on the console, which is in limited supply. Some have resorted to buying units via eBay for hundreds, even thousands above retail pricing. Kotaku has uncovered an interview with the CEO of Crystal Sky, an independent film company in Hollywood. He reveals his company are working away on three movies based on classic gaming franchises - Tekken, Castlevania and, of all things, Pac-Man.The movie is said to be in the early stages of development and will "appeal" to a broad audience. The mind boggles at what they plan to do for a storyline, or actors... or scenes for that matter. Hal Haberman and Gil Kenan are in "final stages of polishing the screenplay" according to the official website, but beyond that there are no other details. While we wait for more news on this undoubted disaster in the making, Kotaku has some speculation on how the plot for a Pac-Man movie might work: I mean, is it going to be some high-dollar, heavy special effect production with people shaped to look like Pac-Man and the ghosts? Or do you think they will go the concept route? You know something like: In a dying world Johnny “Pac-Man” Namco is humanties only chance. The jaunty-hat wearing young Namco must pilot his yellow ship through a haunted maze of burn-out cities on the hunt for power pellets and bits of tantalizing fruit in hopes of staving off death and making the world once more livable for his young bride. Infinium Labs, the company behind the much-delayed and aptly named Phantom gaming console has announced its intention to release a new keyboard & mouse peripheral aimed directly at gamers. The Phantom Lapboard is basically a wireless keyboard and mouse mounted on a board, that lets gamers play their PC games anywhere within a 30-foot radius of the PC. The keyboard lifts at an angle and can rotate a full 360 degrees; the mouse is placed directly underneath it on the board, allowing the gamer to keep his hands closer together than with a regular PC gaming setup. The keyboard also sports an extended spacebar and customised keys for better control of first-person-shooters. A price for the Lapboard hasn't been announced as of yet, and Infinium expect it to be released in the second quarter of 2006. Infinium say the Lapboard will act as a stepping-stone towards the eventual launch of the Phantom console itself, which was first announced way back in 2003. The long delay has earned the console a Vaporware of the Year Award from Wired.com two years in a row. Infinium to Launch Phantom Lapboard - Official website for Phantom Discussion >> By Rob
![]() For the gamer with everything, Nissan and Microsoft have teamed up to create a concept car that melds driving and playing. According to GamesIndustry, Nissan Design America Inc.’s new URGE concept car will let drivers, while parked, play “Project Gotham Racing 3,” using the car’s steering wheel, gas pedal and break pedal. The game will appear on a flip-down seven-inch monitor, which is the rear view mirror when the car is operable. The concept car will make its debut Jan. 9 at the North American International Auto Show. Nissan conducted an Internet survey of 2,000 echo boomers, a majority of which said technology and gaming are among the most important attributes in their first car," said Bruce Campbell, vice president of design at Nissan Design America in La Jolla, Calif. "Xbox 360 offered the latest in technology and was already a favorite among this audience." Related: Xbox 360 Hacked Through a PSP? The Grand Theft Auto series made a stopoff in London in an expansion pack for the original game way back in 1999, and if anonymous rumours are to be believed, the next game will see a return to the English capital.Someone claiming to be an employee of Rockstar North's offices in Glasgow has contacted Joystiq to "reveal" that the game will appear alongside the Playstation 3 in the Spring, and will be set in 1997-era London. If the anonymous tipster/hoax monger is to be believed, the game's graphics and physics systems are finished, and Rockstar are currently working on the storyline: According to our source (who admittedly doesn't have the most perfect spelling), the "3 Island" system will be replaced by a new "North, East, South, West" system, and the main character will be an ex-gangster starting off in the "rough-and-tumble east end of London." Unlocked regions are to include the North End, South End, and West End, in order. The game is supposed to be about 60% finished, with the graphics and physics engines both completed. The focus is now mainly on the game's story component. ![]() Street art has taken on a new form in cities across America where Sony is purchasing the use of building walls in urbanized areas to paint its own brand of graffiti. Using graffiti-type murals, Sony is touting its PlayStation Portable in cities from Miami and New York to San Francisco and beyond. The images painted on the building walls are comic in style and portray kids playing with the PSP. The unusual marketing tactic is intended to capture the attention of younger males who might not slow down to watch a commercial. Sony spokesman Patrick Seybold said the company's PlayStation campaign is aimed at a consumer segment he calls the "urban nomad," which he described as "consumers who are enjoying their entertainment on the go in an artistic and creative way." The push to sell PSPs in North America coincides with Sony’s October prediction it would double its base by the end of the year, selling another 2.5 to 3 million units. ![]() For players of MMOGs like Star Wars Galaxies, World of Warcraft and EverQuest, half the fun is telling the tales of big battles won. Whether it’s through guild adventures or pickup battles, slaying the big dragon, taking down the boss mob or dethroning the “king,” is twice as fun when you can show others your heroic deeds through screen shots on your guild or personal web site. Planetwide Games Inc. has released a new program that will make it even easier for players and guilds to document their deeds. The Comic Book Creator, according to IT News Online, will allow users to import their own digital photos, video game screenshots and art assets to create their own comic books or strips. The creator costs about $19.99 and provides about 500 different layout and design templates. All creators need to do is drop and drag their shots and insert text bubbles to create whatever story they want to tell. The files can be saved as PDF or HTML for online sharing, too. Comic Book Creator is a truly unique product in its ability to merge different forms of popular entertainment for fun and educational purposes, thus creating edutainment," said Kevin Donovan, President of Planetwide Games. "The title's intuitive drag and drop interface and wealth of features provide a user-friendly creative outlet for the whole family, regardless of artistic ability. Gamers can import screenshots and generate their own graphic novels; families can create custom comic books using their family albums and personal photos; and bloggers can add a humorous twist to their posts. The possibilities are endless." Related: E3 MMOG Round-Up Classic MMOG Rescued from Dumpster by Fans How to know if you play MMOG's too much Discussion >> By Sherri
