America's Army v2.1

You may have seen this game around. It is a free download and the best downloadable game that I know of!
There have been a few versions before this one. The v2.1 offers vehicles in some of the levels and adds better graphics detail to the characters and other models.

This game has actually been designed by former army personnel themselves. They have included some important features that enhance the gameplay and that make this fps different from others.

This game is for free download at a number of sites!
personally I use www.fileshack.com (you have to sign up to download)

This game allows all the settings to go on ultra high for: terrain textures, weapon textures, player textures, world textures, render map textures and light textures.

This game has many features that we do not see when we even buy a game, like breathing, iron sight, training and many more. The closet game to this is operation flashpoint, but that offers a wide range of vehicles.

You have to do basic training at the start of the game by a firing range. I found this very difficult on my old PC which didn't use an optical mouse, I kept missing the targets even though I thought I'd hit. You have to get 36+ to do sniper training so you can use a sniper rifle at the start of the game. You also have to do medic training explaining to you all these parts and you have to do a test and get over a certain percentage to pass as a medic. But in the game all you do is hold down the use key then there healed (what's the point in the exam).

They also offer you parachute training and special forces training. Parachuting takes a while to get use to, and is complicated. Whilst special forces because very frustrating while having to do another test, you have to do a sneak mission. Which the AI isn't that great on, they see you through a lot of things, then it shows you the replay and you can't see yourself. Also walking on the ground or grass sounds like your a tab dancer, or that you are banging your feet constantly.

But you can't forgot that this first person shooter offers many realistic effects, the flashbang works great on you or your enemies and blinds them everything, whilst the smoke looks pretty good and gives you great cover. It takes very many important aspects like crouching, going prone and rolling. You have to master which is best for each situation so you become as accurate as possible. So you have to be patient which this game and you cannot be rambo as i can assure you it wont work at all.

This game is for online purpose only and there are a few modes like paintball (as training) and normal by killing the enemy. As long as its an official server you gain honor points.

Honor points have been put in so you can see which people have experience. You need at least 15 points to do special forces (note you start off with 10). You can still play on the mission i believe but you are unable to have you customization that you can get at lv15. Also some servers may block you if your points are too high or low! The easiest way to get these is by completing the round and staying alive. You get even more points for killing enemies, healing the team or being a leader of the group.

An important feature is that the game is called America's Army. You see the opposite team as the terrorists. But if you go on the opposite team you will notice that you're also America's Army. Either way your both Americans but see your enemy different. When you nick there gun it will also be an enemy weapon. I found this very interesting, like nothing i had seen before.

This game may be only of interest to people that like realism, don't want to pay for a game, and that are very patient.

I also personally use team-speak whilst playing with other friends as it is a voice chat program.

Just look at the screen shots and enjoy this game when you have the time to download. I do not recommend this game for 56k people as the download will be a long time. But I've heard you can get it off PC Zone magazine that offer a DVD weekly.

The guy who give you your first gun and the firing range!

Looking down the ironsight

A correct reload

The first squad member of the special force team. They speak various languages which I get confused. This is an annoying idle stance they all seem to do every 10 seconds. By waving there hands in front of you.

Spectating mode. Nice Barrett

Some nice smoke effects coming from the car.

YAY! I get a kill. Screen name:-=R=-Messiah

A roll. Bit fancy but very handy once in prone

Oh dear dont we remeber them days in a class room! Oh boy i aint going back there if i canavoid it! If you look to your partners paper! They accuse you off cheating and you have to start the test again. But i cant even see him opening the pages. So the front logo doesnt hlep much!

Ah! If your honor points are not above lvl 15, you cannot customize your weapon so you look like one of these special op guys, just not a normal special American's ops guys! I know it doesnt make sense but you will see the picture!

This game may be only of interest to people that like realism, don't want to pay for a game, and that are very patient. It is described as solid by a newbie user and that's why people may get pissed off with it in the first place and will no longer play. It takes people to be committed for this game to last. It already has 4 million players signed up. Also you have to create your on personal account. So if someone has nicked your name tough luck! But at least you're unique.
