 Yahoo focusing on RSS
An invitation was posted in the Webmaster World forums by a representative of Yahoo (Yahoo_Mike) for members to add all their RSS feeds into the Yahoo RSS Directory which is being built, but is not yet publically viewable.

Yahoo embraced RSS when they included it as a module on the My Yahoo! page, but it is a poor implementation of services that have almost been perfected by smaller operators like Bloglines, Technorati and Feedster.

Yahoo_Mike even says that those services have competition in Yahoo!:
"While our RSS directory is growing every day, we aim to be every bit as inclusive as Feedster, Technorati, Syndic8 and the like."

Yahoo! clearly is focusing on RSS, their recent acquisition, Oddpost includes a newsreader along with technology to rival Gmail as a web app; if Yahoo can create an RSS service as intuitive and as easy to use as Gmail is for email, then they will have an edge in the current competition they're in with Google.
