No personal data lost in Lulz Nintendo hack

No personal data lost in Lulz Nintendo hackNintendo recently saw one of its affilliate’s servers in the US hacked by the same crew responsible for the massive breach over at Sony.

The company were quick to make clear that no personal data was lost in the breach, carried out by hacking team Lulz Security.

“There were no third-party victims,” company spokesman Ken Toyoda said.

Attacks like this seem to be on the rise, with hackers attacking corporations for one or another greivance. Earlier this year Sony’s PlayStation network was breached and the personal and financial details of over 70 million users was compromised. Luckily for Nintendo they had no personal data stored on the server that was attacked. But they said there was definite malicious intent on the part of the hackers.

The protection of our customer information is our utmost priority …therefore, we constantly monitor our security,” said Tomokazu Nakaura of Nintendo Japan.

3DS update may cause bug in game

The first 3DS system update which is available today may cause a freezing bug in Ridge Racer 3D requiring a system restart, Nintendo Japan announced. The freeze occurs on the ‘Race select’ or ‘Machine select’ screens. A seperate firmware update will be released sometime in mid-June to correct the problem.

The update sees the grand opening of the 3DS estore. To mark this occasion Nintendo are giving away a free game for a limited time. Until July 7th users can download the 3D version of the classic NES game Excitebike. The update also adds an internet browser.

In other news, the 3DS’s little brother yesterday saw a nice price drop, bringing the DS Lite down to a tempting $99 retail.

3DS, Nintendo’s fastest selling console in the UK

3DS, Nintendo's fastest selling console in the UKNew figures just released show that the 3Ds has sold an impressive 113,000 units in its first weekend on sale in the United Kingdom. This is more than the Wii at its launch back in 2006.

Not content with doing things in halves, the 3DS also claims the title of fastest selling Nintendo handheld in Europe, outing such luminaries as the Game Boy and the original DS.

Nintendo of Europe’s Managing Director of Marketing & PR, Laurent Fischer said the appeal of the 3DS has struck a chord with gamers old and new:

Nintendo 3DS allows people to experience, for the first time, 3D technology on the move and at home, with fun and surprises for all to enjoy,” said Fischer. “With the built-in pick-up-and-play Face Raiders game and StreetPass feature adding new dimensions to the already diverse line-up of launch titles, Nintendo 3DS has struck a chord with gamers old and new.

Before it was even released the plucky little handheld also broke pre-order records on Amazon.co.uk, previously held by the PS3.
