Mass Effect 3 coming March 2012

BioWare and EA have announced the release date for the third instalment of Mass Effect. The game will make its appearance on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC on March 6th 2012.

Originally slated for a Christmas release this year, the game was delayed back in May much to the dismay of fans expecting an Xmas to remember.

Check out the embedded E3 trailer above.

Mass Effect 3, no Christmas for thee

Mass Effect 3 won't be under the tree this year.Games developer BioWare has confirmed that Mass Effect 3, the highly anticipated follow-up to 2010′s Game of the Year will not be in Santa’s bag of tricks this year.

The sad news was confirmed by BioWare’s Chris Priestly over on the company’s social network forum.

Today we have confirmed that Mass Effect 3 will be released in the first three months of 2012. The development team is laser focused on making sure Mass Effect 3 is the biggest, boldest and best game in the series, ensuring that it exceeds everyone’s expectations.”  said Casey Hudson, Executive Producer Mass Effect series.

We’ll have more details about specific dates as we get closer to release.

Mass Effect 3 was originally slated for an Xmas release, but now fans will have to wait until some time in the first quarter of next year. There is no concrete release date confirmed as of yet.

In other news BioWare’s massively multiplayer RPG Star Wars: The Old Republic might also be hit with a delay; previously expected out by September the game now has EA representatives casting doubt on the RPG seeing the light of day in 2011:

“While we fully anticipate launching Star Wars: The Old Republic in Q2 or Q3, the low end of our guidance range assumes the outside possibility of a January launch,” said Frank Gibeau, president of the EA Games label.

Bioware release beta patch for Dragon Age II (PC)

Dragon Age IIVersion 1.01 of this beta patch is an attempt to address a number of issues in the game, like save game corruption on single-core CPU machines. Bioware stress that the patch is still in beta form and untested, so they urge people only to use it if they are experiencing any of the issues this patch is supposed to resolve. If you’re not having any of the problems below then it is recommended you wait for the finished version of this update.

The bugs are only affecting the PC version of the game. If you are playing on Mac, PS3 or Xbox you don’t need to be concerned. You can download the patch here.

From the Bioware forums:

What are the patch notes?
GENERAL

  • Fixed save game issues on single core machines
  • Fixed game asking for non-existent drives
  • Fixed release control issues where some players were unable to unlock correctly
  • Fixed a Steam-specific issue related to VO not playing after switching languages**

What does BETA mean?
BETA means:

  • Users apply this patch at their own risk. In general, we recommend you only download and apply it if you are affected by the specific issues listed in the patch notes.
  • **Steam does not support BETA patches. Steam users will have to wait for the final non-BETA patch before they can take advantage of these fixes. We’re working on it but, unfortunately, this will not occur in time for the weekend.

Don’t forget to grab the high-resolution texture patch released by Bioware a few days ago. This gives users with a DirectX 11 PC updated higher-resolution textures than those shipped out of the box.

Dragon Age II out now

Dragon Age IIDragon Age II, the highly-anticipated sequel to 2009′s uber popular Game of the Year Dragon Age: Origins is out now.

Valve and Amazon have been taking pre-orders since January but the release date is finally here. Those who pre-ordered with Bioware will have access to additional in-game content, such as:

Fadeshear

The core of this blade is old. As old as the first smiths who sought a way to battle the nightmares from the land beyond. It has fought the demonic hosts in countless battles. Sometimes it has been held high in triumphant victory. Other times, it has lain broken besides its dying owner. But after every defeat it has always been reclaimed, reforged, and made stronger. Fadeshear has passed through many hands before yours. Now it is your turn to make the demons of the Fade pay for crossing the Veil into the waking world.

Features:

  • Improves with level-up
  • Additional damage vs. demons and undead

The Lion of Orlais

At the height of the Summer War all of Orlais was embroiled in fierce battles. Over the course of the war dozens of contenders for the Imperial Throne emerged – most long forgotten except as footnotes in scholarly tomes. But everyone remembers the gallant young lord Emile Deveraux, “The Golden Prince”. Thought outnumbered at every turn, he racked victory upon victory culminating in the Seventh Battle of Roses. While wearing this shield he broke through his uncle’s vanguard to win the day. He never knew the taste of defeat, instead meeting his end at the hands of a jealous lover in the dead of night.

Features:

  • Two rune slots
  • Adds to health
  • Adds to % XP gain

The Black Emporium

Features:

  • A magic item store that has some of the best equipment you’ll find in the game. It’s restocked with better items as you progress through the story.
  • A loyal mabari hound that fights at your side in battle.
  • The “Mirror of Transformation”. Gaze into it and you can change your very appearance. Hair, eyes, tattoos, and more can be changed with the click of a button.
  • A crafting store which sells powerful unique recipes.
  • Explore the Black Emporium and uncover its strange secrets and lore. Be sure to see its strange proprietor. It should prove most… memorable.

Don’t forget to check out Rob’s preview of the Facebook game. You can of course still grab the demo of DAII from Bioware, which on completion will allow you to unlock items in the full game.

Mass Effect 3 next year, preorder already available

BioWare have announced the much-speculated about Mass Effect 3 will launch at the tail end of 2011. The developer also released the above trailer and you can even pre-order the game right now on Amazon.
The game will be released simultaneously on the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. The trailer depicts Earth under siege by the Reapers, and is narrated by the un-named sniper who appeared in a teaser image BioWare released in the build up to the announcement.

The official announcement can be found on BioWare’s website.

Baldur’s Gate 2 + Throne of Bhaal $10 on GoG.com

Bodhi Baldurs Gate 2If you’re looking for some old school dungeons & dragons PC gaming, you can now pick up the classic Baldur’s Gate 2 and the expansion for $9.99. Good Old Games have added the game to their catalogue and I can personally recommend it, having poured hours of game time into completing it when it came out around the year 2000.

The game was developed by BioWare utilising the advanced dungeons and dragons engine and was the pinnacle of these games in my opinion; I could never get as absorbed in NeverWinter Nights and IceWind Dale as I did with the Baldur’s Gate series.

Buy the game on GoG.com here.

Also, Ripten.com have three copies of the game to give away, but it’s not for people unfamiliar to the series. They’re asking for the best ‘Minsc Memes’ to be submitted and the best will be rewarded with BG2. If you don’t know who or what Minsc is, then I guess you’re out of luck!

Dragon Age: Origins Ultimate Edition compiles all DLC and expansion

Dragon Age: Origins Ultimate EditionBioWare today announced the Dragon Age: Origins Ultimate Edition. The new edition includes the original game, the expansion Awakening and all seven downloadable content packs.

The Ultimate Edition bundled together comes to about $114 worth of games for $49.99-$59.99 depending on your platform and is available to preorder on Gamestop now for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

As a fan of the game myself, the pack is very good value for all that content. I got a few months of play out of Dragon Age: Origins alone and the downloadable content all offered extra hours of fun. The Golems of Amgarrak DLC in particular I was playing for a few days and I still have yet to play Awakening and Witch Hunt.

The Ultimate Edition will release on 26th October and is listed as a limited-time offer, so check it out soon.

Dragon Age 2 coming in March, New Website, Trailer Released

BioWare have announced the sequel to Dragon Age: Origins will ship next March and have launched a brand new website and trailer for the game.

Dragon Age 2 Concept ArtDragon Age 2 is set sometime after the Blight of Ferelden, as the Darkspawn and other threats emerge to endanger the world again.

The official FAQ reveals it will be a standalone experience, and players won’t need to own Dragon Age: Origins to play.

Familiar characters from the first game will make an appearance, and many new spells are promised.

Dragon Age 2 is available to preorder on the EA Store (digital download), Amazon.com and GameStopicon. The game is listed as $49.95 for the XP/Vista version, while the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions cost $59.95.

Those lucky enough to attend Gamescom in Cologne Germany August 19-22 will have a chance to play a playable demo of Dragon Age 2 on Xbox 360 and PS3.

New Dragon Age: Origins DLC: Golems of Amgarrak

Dragon Age: Origins Golems of AmgarrakBioWare have released a new piece of downloadable content for Dragon Age: Origins.

The Golems of Amgarrak sees you “delve deep underground to save a missing dwarven expedition in search of ancient secrets for creating monstrous constructs”.

The addon promises new characters to meet, all-new creatures to destroy, a new storyline and challenging puzzles.

  • Import your character from Origins or Awakening or create a new, high-level hero!
  • Face an all-new terrifying creature
  • Earn powerful rewards that transfer into your Awakening and Originscampaign
  • An advanced challenge for even the most experienced adventurers

I was a big fan of the DLC  system for Dragon Age, and bought a fair few of them including Darkspawn Chronicles. The low price for a few extra hours in that excellent game seemed a fair price to pay.

The new addon costs a similar price: $5, and is available via the BioWare points system in-game.

A screenshot and cinematic video are also available on the official DragonAge site. Via DragonAge Twitter
