Black Ops has broken the record for one day sales, set last year by Modern Warfare. The game sold 5.6 million units when it went on sale on Tuesday, trouncing the previous 4.7 million record held by Modern Warfare. Activision are calling it the ‘biggest entertainment launch ever’:
“Not too many years back it would have been unfathomable that the biggest entertainment launch would be a video game two years in a row,” said Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing.
“You are delivering not just a gaming experience but a cinematic experience as well,” Hirshberg said. “The characters are emerging as the protagonists of the story.”

The game has also outsold Modern Warfare in the U.K. by 14 percent.
Meanwhile, a mission in the game where you try to kill a young Fidel Castro has been blasted by the Cuban government, who say the game glorifies assassination and will turn U.S. children into sociopaths:
The island’s state-run media also took a dig at the CIA’s real-life efforts to do in the island’s revolutionary leader, who has survived dozens, perhaps hundreds of attempts on his life. “What the United States couldn’t accomplish in more than 50 years, they are now trying to do virtually,” said an article posted on Cubadebate, a state-run news website.
